PowerDrive

Privacy Policy

Your files never reach us.

How PowerDrive handles your data, in the app, between your devices, in your own bucket, and on this website.

Effective October 12, 2026

Who we are

PowerDrive is made by Unidatum Integrated Products Limited, Venture Hub, 136 Capel Street, Dublin D01 T2C9, Ireland, the controller for the little personal data this policy describes, together with Unidatum Integrated Products LLC in the United States.

For anything about privacy, write to privacy@unidatum.eu. We have not appointed a statutory Data Protection Officer; that address handles every request.

In short

Your files never reach us
PowerDrive has no Unidatum server, no account and no cloud of ours. Your files are stored on your devices and travel only between the devices you pair, and to a storage bucket of your own if you attach one.
No tracking
The app has no analytics, crash reporting, advertising or update checks, and sends nothing to Unidatum.
What we do see
When you download PowerDrive from this site, a count of the download (product, version, country, browser) and Cloudflare's bot check. That is all.

What PowerDrive keeps on your device

Your library: each file sealed with XChaCha20-Poly1305 under a random key of its own, and a sealed record of it (its path, size and dates, which device last wrote it, and its key) sealed under your library key. A record is named by a keyed hash of the file's path, so the store names no file or folder.

The library key opens everything. It is kept in the platform's key store: the Android Keystore, the iOS Keychain, Windows' DPAPI, and on macOS a file only your account can read. We never see it and cannot recover a library if every device holding it is lost.

On a computer, PowerDrive also keeps your files as ordinary files in the PowerDrive folder in your home folder, so any program can use them, and a record of that folder's paths and contents' hashes beside its data. When you open a file from the app, a readable copy is placed in PowerDrive's own data folder for the app that opens it, and replaced when you open the next.

On Android, PowerDrive's data sits in a folder that Android's backup never copies, and on iPhone it is marked excluded from iCloud backup. On Windows and macOS your own backup software may include the PowerDrive folder and the data folder.

PowerDrive writes a diagnostic log to the system log (Android's logcat, the console on a computer) and nowhere else. It records events such as which paired device synced, with its address, and counts, never file names or contents.

What travels between your devices

Your devices sync directly with each other, over your local network or a Tailscale network, on TCP port 27950 (and 27951 while a computer is showing its pairing code). PowerDrive does not use discovery services, relays, STUN servers or any server of ours; a device knows only the addresses a pairing gave it.

What crosses is your files and their records as sealed: a device without the library key cannot read them. The connection itself is encrypted (X25519 key agreement between the devices' own keys, then AES-256-GCM).

Your paired devices see each device's name (on a computer, its name on the network) and address, how many sealed items the library holds, their sizes, and when and by which device each was written.

A pairing link (the QR code or link shown when you add a device) carries the library key. Treat it like a key to every file: anyone who has it and can reach one of your devices can join the library. It does not expire, so do not send it by chat or email.

Your own storage bucket (optional)

You can attach an S3-compatible bucket you own (AWS, Cloudflare R2, MinIO and others) on any device. That device then uploads every sealed item in the library to it: no file names and nothing the bucket's provider can read, though the provider sees how many items there are, their sizes, when they were uploaded, and the device's address.

The bucket's access keys stay on the device you enter them on, sealed in its key store, and never sync. Your agreement with the bucket's provider governs what it does with what it stores. Nothing goes to Unidatum.

Camera, and opening files in other apps

Camera (Android)
Used only while you scan a pairing code or photograph a document. Codes are read and pages found, straightened and read on the phone itself, by text recognition built into the app. A scan is saved as a PDF in your Scans folder, which syncs to your devices like any file; the photos themselves are discarded.
Opening a file
When you open a file, PowerDrive hands a readable copy of that one file to the app you choose, for reading only. On iPhone it opens in Apple's viewer, whose share button lets you send it on.
Network
Used only to reach your own paired devices and, if you attach one, your bucket.

This website and downloads

This site is static pages served by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and runs no analytics. Cloudflare, as our hosting provider, processes the requests it serves, including your IP address, under its own privacy policy (cloudflare.com/privacypolicy).

Before a download, the download page runs Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that you are a person and not a bot; Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser signals to decide. We then count each download: the product, version and file, whether it completed, the country Cloudflare places the request in, and your browser's user-agent string. We do not store your IP address with it. These counts are kept for three months.

If you install PowerDrive from Google Play or the App Store instead, that store handles the install under its own privacy policy, and gives us only the aggregate statistics stores give every developer.

Sharing, selling, advertising

We do not sell or share personal information, and we show no advertising. Apart from Cloudflare hosting and protecting the downloads, no one processes personal data for us in connection with PowerDrive.

Deleting your data

Deleting a file in PowerDrive deletes it from the PowerDrive folder on every paired computer and from every device's list. The sealed copy of its earlier contents stays in each device's PowerDrive data and in an attached bucket, readable only with the library key, until that data is removed.

Removing a device stops the others syncing with it; it keeps the files it already holds. Uninstalling PowerDrive on a phone deletes that phone's data. On a computer, delete PowerDrive's data folder (%AppData%\PowerDrive on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/PowerDrive on macOS) and, if you wish, the PowerDrive folder. Empty or delete your bucket with its provider.

We hold nothing of your files to delete. The download counts are not tied to you, and expire after three months.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us what personal data we hold about you, and to correct or delete it. Under the GDPR you also have the rights to restrict or object to processing and to portability; under California's CPRA, to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing (there is none to opt out of). Write to privacy@unidatum.eu: we answer within 30 days (45 under the CPRA), and may need to confirm who you are first. In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you.

In the EU you may complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie), our lead supervisory authority, or to the authority where you live or work; in the UK, to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

PowerDrive is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them; the app collects none from anyone.

Changes

If PowerDrive starts handling data differently, we will update this page before the version that does so is released, and change the date below.
